Keeping Busy

Ross told me the other day that he expected our life would be different with two kids, but he didn't realize how different it really would be. We are so thankful and we are enjoying every minute! Here is what we have been up to lately. :)

Buddies

This is Drew's newest buddy--Henry Matthew (on the right). He belongs to Matt and Lauren and is 8 days older than Drew. Hopefully they grow up to be best buddies, just like their older sisters.

Here are the girls on Sage's birthday. They continue to have a blast together--when Sage isn't proclaiming EVERY toy as her own... even when we're at Claire's house! Ahhh... the joys of raising a two-year-old. :)

Life As We Know It

Ross is back to work today--hard to believe that we've been a family of four for over a week now. Thanksgiving flew by and we've had lots of visitors, but now we're starting to get into the flow of things a bit more. :) (Pictures are in reverse order of when they actually were taken-sorry).

Look at his reddish-hair! He's got a little of his mama in him after all!

Taking a nap in the sun, trying to get his bilirubin count down.

Grandpa Cliff

Sage loves her baby brudder.

Baby "Dew" gets a lot of attention from Sage. She always wants to "hold it, HOLD IT!"

So cute.

Cousin Ben and Aunt Jill visited us as well. Uncle Josh got to meet Drew at the hospital.

Pappy Franklin and Grandma Pam made the trip from Springville, on Sunday.

Grandma, or "Grampa", as Sage calls her, stayed with Sage overnight while we were in the hospital. Aunt Sheila helped us out as well!

We didn't manage to get pictures, but Drew also got to meet Sue and LaBrent at the hospital, and his aunt and uncle, Trina and Cary, and cousins Maly and Audrey. On Thanksgiving, Aunt Kris and Aunt Kim and cousin Dallas also got to meet our little guy.

Nothing like hearing from your nephew,
Dallas: "Hey, are you pregnant?"
Me: "Nope, not anymore. That's where Drew came from."
Dallas: "Oh, well, you still look like it."
Me: "Give me a break! I just gave birth three days ago!"

Kids can be so honest... luckily for me, nursing is helping to quickly drop the weight, so hopefully at Christmas I won't be asked the same question!! :)

Practice

Sage LOVES babies. She's become a pretty good little mama. She now insists that we put her babies' bed at the foot of her bed at night so she can tuck them in and say good night. A couple weekends ago she got to practice being a big sister to Clara. That was a bit scarier than pretending with plastic dolls! Although she had great intentions. :)

(That's just a shadow on Clara's face...)

Mrs. Mortenson, the Moose

During Author's Chair today, one of my students had the opportunity to share her published story to the class. In short, it was about her love of animals and if she was really good at school, her parents would let her get one more pet. She chose a moose and named it Mrs. Mortenson.

Here is an excerpt:

"It was Take-Your-Pet-to-School day, but we could only bring one pet, so I decided to bring my moose! The next day, when I got to school, I could barley fit Mrs. Mortenson through the door. But more kids came and decided to help get Mrs. Mortenson through the door! We had to push very hard to finally get it accomplished."

As if I wasn't already feeling HUGE!!!!

Besties

Sage had her BFF Claire over to help celebrate her birthday with her. Luckily neither one realized it was actually a day late... but definitely not a dollar short! They had so much fun together.

At one point they chased each other upstairs in their high-heeled dress-up shoes. Instead of interfering with their antics, Matt, Lauren, Ross and I turned on the video monitor and watched the show. Ross took video with the Flip Cam so I will shorten it up a bit and post later on... too funny!

Rollin' in the Dough

Who would have thought a chef's outfit and Play-Doh would make a little girl so happy?

Look Who's 2!

It's hard to believe that our baby is already two-years-old! Somehow we've made it this far without too many major parenting errors.

Although Sage apparently would not agree, as she is already studying up on how to raise baby #2...

We're definitely going to have our hands full!

Naptime = Playtime

...somebody had a little fun before she finally settled down for her nap. :)

It's hard to see, but when we left the room, her floor was spotless. When I returned to check on her, shoes adorned the floor, her dirty clothes had been dumped out of their basket and tossed about the room, the basket for her laundry was turned over in her closet, diapers were scattered about, stuffed animals filled in the gaps, and she was sleeping with a tube of diaper cream. Go figure... at least she eventually managed to crawl back up into bed!

Omaha Zoo

We've been taking advantage of this beautiful fall weather. This weekend we decided to take a day-trip to the Omaha zoo--and I'm so glad that we did! The day couldn't have gone any better. We left WDM a little after 9 and got to the zoo a little after 11. I packed a picnic lunch for us and plenty of snacks to keep Sage occupied if she started to get antsy. I was a bit worried that she wouldn't want to be pushed around in her stroller, since she gets to walk around the DSM zoo these days, but she did great. She got out a couple of times to go potty but then let us put her back in. She did walk around the aviary with Ross, and around the children's petting zoo.

The zoo is huge! There were a lot more indoor exhibits than I had expected. Perhaps my favorite were the gorillas and Ross would probably say that his was the walk-through underwater part with sharks and giant sea turtles swimming above. We just happened to be there during feeding time, so the sharks were quite active. Every time we walked out of a building, Sage would say, "More animals". She was really disappointed when we left to go back home over three hours later.
