All in a Day's Work

While we were in CF over the weekend Mollie asked me what we planned to do in this ridiculous heat wave and I really had no clue... but here's how we ended up spending Day 1:

I raided some of my old teaching materials from the basement...

Sage helped make her own play dough...

And then enjoyed rolling it out like cookie dough...

She insisted on sculpting a bit of it...

And tried to eat it...

She took a four hour nap before she moved on to the fridge magnets.
Yes, she remained in her pajamas until dinner time...

Then we went to ride around Home Depot in the little orange shopping trucks before she returned home to launder her favorite two little buddies.

I'm sure we will rinse and repeat over the next couple of days since it's almost too hot to even get out to the deck to use her wading pool. Summer is going way too fast not to enjoy the simplicity of an almost-two-year-old, although I've been taking online classes and working a bit on next school year because I feel like my mind needs something to keep it going!

Fun with Daddy

We enjoyed a relaxing 4th of July weekend in WDSM and Indianola. We spent Saturday with Grandpa Cliff and Sunday with Trina, Cary, and the girls in Indianola. Sage had a BLAST being one of the big girls for the day. On Monday, we took it easy, cleaned, did some yard work, and just had fun playing with Sage in the backyard. It was wonderful!

We're back!

Here's a sneak peek from our first trip to Europe. We had a blast visiting Brian and Kate in Madrid and then traveling north to Norway with our friend, Banga, along as well. We wrapped up our trip back in southern Spain, in the town of Seville. I can't believe how much we fit into a short ten days. Brian and Kate were awesome hosts and it was really difficult to leave them back in Spain. Thanks for an awesome trip, you two! Where to next? :)

Bubbles

Let me start out by saying that these are not the best pictures... but Uncle Lucas would give us a hard time if we didn't post again soon. With three days left of school, I can hardly wait to spend the summer outside with Sage. She has discovered that she can "hide" her bubbles on the shelf inside the grill. I bought the bubbles in the dollar bin at Target, got home, and found that there isn't even a wand inside! So, for now, Sage just enjoys carrying around her container of bubbles. Who wouldn't ?

Her bubbles go everywhere with her in the backyard. She even tries to drink them, to no avail, but she's thrilled to just hold them, nonetheless. It's the simple things in life with a 19-month-old.

I must also post about a major accomplishment in our house over the past couple of weeks. Sage actually lets me do her hair these days without immediately pulling it out. She always looks cute going to daycare, but Lisa says that by the end of her first nap time, our efforts in the morning were useless. She looks like a shaggy puppy most days when I pick her up. :)

Miss Independent

Sage is becoming quite independent these days. I created a make-shift fort for her in the corner of our family room after work today. By dinner time she was holding a little tea party for herself and her friend, Bear. I kid-you-not, I found her like this...

After her pre-dinner tea party, she decided she was ready for a real meal, so she hopped up on my lap and insisted that she try corn on the cob. Notice she had to brace herself on the table to get the hang of it at first...

It didn't take long for Sage to want to try it by herself...

I think she'll be an avid sweet corn consumer, like the rest of us, in the coming months. :)
